Illustrations for Dr Who App

These illustrations were created for the BBC's Dr who App which was launched to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the much loved TV show. It was probably the most challenging brief I've ever tackled due in part to the 50 clues in each illustration

I had to recreate the interior of the Tardis from screen grabs of the show which gave me endless headaches.

I thought it was high time I posted something

I thought I should post something since it's been a really long time since I last did. Paper Panda is keeping me very busy these days.

This was an illustration for "Say What You See " for Big Ideas and the theme is super villains.

Official Discworld Character Prints available now!

I'm very excited to be able to share something that I've had the pleasure of working on recently. These are official limited edition prints of some of the fantastic Characters from the Discworld universe. Each one is a limited edition print signed by Sir Terry Pratchett.

This is a collaboration with my wife who owns and runs Paper Panda and the lovely people at PJSM Prints.
The designs were created by myself and then cut from a single piece of paper using a scalpel by the talented Louise Firchau a.k.a Paper Panda

To see more of her amazing work please visit
and if you like what you see and want to purchase anything then please visit

As huge Discworld fans we are very honoured and proud to be able to offer these artworks and we hope you like them as much as we liked creating them.

The Kindred Poster

I was recently commissioned to illustrate a poster for Michael Grais' (the creator of cool world and the writer of the poltergeist movies that scared the hell out of me as a child) new screenplay, an action movie based around vampires. This is how it turned out. The titles were created by Paul Goodenough and the illustration was done by me using Photoshop.

Toy themed Characters

This is a selection of toy based characters I designed for StarFire studios. I really enjoyed this project, I do like it when I get the chance to do some light hearted stuff, it makes a pleasant change.

Leading man

This was a character design
created for a third person game I had the good fortune to work on last year. As with so many projects  sadly the game was canned so I thought I'd show some of the work I did.

The brief and art direction for the project was to go for a more realistic and understated look, not space marines or gears of war, so in terms of design it meant I had to stay away from bold shapes and colours. It was a challenge and I really enjoyed fleshing out these characters.

I'll post some more concepts soon, hope you like it.

Another one bites the dust

I thought I'd post some designs from another cancelled project that I won't name. It's a real shame I had high hopes that this would be a great one to get stuck into, a real monster fest and you know how much I like my monsters.

This was primarily very early thumbnails, a starting point for the design process, so they are for the most part pretty rough but they get the idea across.

Latex mask project update

So here's a long overdue update on one of my many long running personal projects. Spare time is such a rarity at present so the personal work has to suffer, shame really as that's where I have the most creative freedom. Anyway, I managed to cast this guy in liquid latex and made a start on the paint work. I still want to keep building up the skin tones and details but it's at a stage I feel comfortable enough to show it.

Long time no post

Hello everyone!

I'm still alive and kicking and working hard. I've had very little time for personal work since I left Rare and went it alone. I'm both pleased and relieved to say that freelancing has been a successful venture and It's going really well. The majority of my current projects are under NDA so I'm unable to share what I've been up to for the time being.

One of the many projects that I've had the pleasure of working on that I can show, is a canvas I created for the IPad/Phone app 'Say what you See' by Bigideasdigital.

The theme is 'Fantasy films', see how many you can guess, better still head over to the app store and download a copy

Let me know what you think! I really do welcome all comments and feedback.

Fantasy Art Magazine May issue

I received my complementary copy of Fantasy Art magazine, it features (amongst some really amazing art works) a ten page interview with yours truly. I'm really pleased with how it turned out and it was a great honour to be asked to take part, especially considering the fantastic artists they featured. Big thanks to Lizzy craft for sorting it all out.

Chimeran Scenes

A little bit of 2d art in the form of these scenes
it's been a while since I've done this kind of work and I felt really rusty but they were really good fun.

Fish Chimeran completed

Just finished this guy the other night. I had to rebuild him from scratch, so I tweaked the design a little bit. The first one was made from WED clay, when I sealed it with shellac it didn't work very well and the sculpt cracked. I think crystal clear works better for sealing WED clay as I used it on the other two busts and they didn't crack.

He's sculpted from regular Super Sculpey, over a very basic wire armature. I boiled the Sculpey in a large pan to cure it instead of baking it as this method really produces a lot less cracks and the heat is more evenly distributed across the surface plus it cools down quicker in the water. The fin was made after I cured the Sculpey. It's made from milliput a two part epoxy that bonds very well with Sculpey and it's a lot tougher and is ideal for delicate details. Hope you like him and thanks for looking.

Military Chimeran Maquette

He's made from Super Sculpey with some Milliput. The base is roughly the size of an A4 sheet of paper to give you an idea of the scale.

Some new work for the Chimeran to go with the new updated site pop over and check it out.

Thanks for looking.

Chimeran Draft animal - Beasts of Burden

Shire horse and oxen have been combined to create a draft animal with the strength and versatility of an ox and the intellect, grace and good nature of the horse.

More Chimeran work. Meet Lydia, she's one of the main chimerans from the story, created in Zbrush from Zspheres I detailed the concept in Photoshop.

Thanks for looking.

Cat chimeran

A domestic cat mixed with a monkey is the topic of this latest design, roughly the same size as a ordinary house cat.

Earlier version of the military Chimeran

These are the first attempts at the Military creature design.

What I was hoping to achieve was a design based on lots of different animals combined to make a new species. I wanted each individual animal to be incorporated in a subtle way. I chose gorilla, human, tiger, bear, orangutan and Rottweiler dog for the colour scheme.

Hope you like them and as always thanks for looking.
